Matt Holubowski’s musical career began in 2014 with his debut album Old Man, a collection of folk songs inspired by his many trips and experiences around the world. His sophomore album Solitudes, released in 2016, sold over 45,000 copies, garnered 17M streams, earned a Gold Record and two ADISQ nominations for Album of the Year and Concert of the Year. In 2018, he toured across Canada, the US and Europe, selling over 15,000 tickets, which led to an invitation from The Cure’s frontman Robert Smith to perform at London’s Meltdown Festival.
Back in the studio with producer Connor Seidel, he pushed sonic experimentation further with Weird Ones (2020), written over two months in Krakow and two more in Banff. Though the tour was cut short by the pandemic, he still played over 60 shows across Canada, both solo and with a full band, once venues reopened.
His 2023 release Like Flowers on a Molten Lawn is his most meticulously crafted album to date, marked by intricate sonic arrangements and bold experimentation. The record earned him the Félix for Album of the Year – Anglophone and a nomination for Show of the Year – Anglophone at the ADISQ Gala. It brought him back on stage with a full tour across Quebec, along with stops in Western Canada and Europe. In 2024, he released the EP Somewhere, Someone, featuring unreleased tracks from the same studio sessions, closing this chapter of his career.
